Kidney function test report reader: creatinine, urea and eGFR explained

A kidney function test (KFT or RFT) shows how well your kidneys filter: creatinine, urea, eGFR, uric acid and salts. Upload it and MedDroid explains each value and which are outside the range.

In the MedDroid assistant, tap + → Read a report or scan, then use your camera or upload a photo or PDF.

How it works

  1. STEP 1

    Upload a photo or PDF

Take a photo of your report or upload the lab's PDF. Several pages? Add up to 4 files at once.

  2. STEP 2

    MedDroid reads the values

Every test is read top to bottom with its value, unit and the lab's normal range, and the ones outside the range are marked.

  3. STEP 3

    Get it in plain language

A short explanation in everyday words, whether anything looks serious, and what to do next, including what to ask your doctor.

What you get

EXAMPLE

Kidney function test (example)

Illustrative example with made-up values, not a real patient. Your own report is read the same way.

Needs attention

Creatinine1.4 mg/dL ▲ HighRange 0.7 – 1.3
eGFR58 mL/min/1.73m² ▼ LowRange 60 or above

✓ 5 other values in the normal range

In simple words

Creatinine is slightly high and eGFR slightly low, so the kidneys may be filtering a little less than usual. Urea and salts are inside the range.

Is it serious?

A single result like this is often rechecked. It needs a doctor's review, but is usually not an emergency.

What to do next

  • Ask your doctor whether to repeat the test
  • Ask whether a urine albumin test is needed

Values it explains

Also eGFR, the BUN/creatinine ratio, chloride, calcium and phosphorus when they are on the report.

Your report, your choice. You can read a report without an account. If you are signed in, MedDroid asks before adding it to your health records, and nothing is saved there without your yes. Privacy policy

Frequently asked questions

What is eGFR on a kidney report?

eGFR is an estimate of how much blood your kidneys filter each minute, calculated from creatinine, age and sex. Lower values can mean reduced kidney function; doctors look at the trend over time.

Can dehydration change my kidney test?

Yes. Dehydration, a heavy protein meal or hard exercise can raise urea and creatinine for a while. Your doctor may repeat the test.

Is the lab report reader really free?

Yes. The free Community Edition includes 1 report read a day, whether or not you have an account. Paid plans allow more (fair use of up to 5 report reads a day).

Do I need to sign in?

No, you can read a report without an account. Sign in only if you want to keep it: MedDroid then asks before adding the report to your health records, and saves nothing there without your yes.

Is this a diagnosis?

No. MedDroid explains what the values on your report mean in general, so you can understand them and prepare questions. Only your doctor can interpret the results with your symptoms and history.
