Frequently asked questions
Why do my hands shake?
Common reasons are stress, caffeine, tiredness and an overactive thyroid. Essential tremor is the commonest lasting cause. A doctor can examine you and check simple tests.
Is a hand tremor a sign of Parkinson’s?
Not usually. Parkinson’s tremor tends to happen at rest and comes with slowness and stiffness. Most hand tremors are not Parkinson’s.
Can anxiety cause shaking hands?
Yes. Adrenaline released during anxiety can cause shaking, a fast heartbeat and sweating. It usually settles when the anxiety eases.
