Methylprednisolone is a steroid for inflammation, given as tablets or injection. It belongs to the Systemic corticosteroid (extra) group. These steroids strongly reduce inflammation and calm the immune system in many conditions.

Why do steroids need to be tapered?
After more than a short course, the body reduces its own steroid output. Stopping suddenly can cause a dangerous drop, so the dose is reduced gradually.
