UTIs are very common in women and cause burning, frequency and urgency when passing urine. Most bladder infections are easily treated, but signs of a kidney infection need faster care.

- Bacteria (often from the bowel) entering the urethra
- Sex, which can push bacteria towards the bladder
- Not passing urine often or holding it too long
