Frequently asked questions
Why take osteoporosis tablets on an empty stomach?
Oral bisphosphonates are poorly absorbed with food and can irritate the food pipe, so they are taken first thing with plain water, staying upright afterwards.
How long are these medicines taken?
Often several years, sometimes with a planned break (“drug holiday”). Your doctor reviews the balance of benefit and rare risks.
